Morning Makeup

This morning I pressed snooze until it was 7:00am, the exact time that I should be leaving my house.  This is part of the reason that I might never let my hair get long again; all I had to do was throw on the clothes I had set out the night before, brush my teeth, and run out the front door.  And I totally made it on time.
Laziness gets such a bad rap, but I like to think of all the ways that it helps me in my life.  Laziness drives me to simplify things and one thing that I have brilliantly simplified is my makeup routine.  I have gotten amazingly talented at putting on my makeup in the car.  I know that’s terrible.  But it takes me less than a minute and when I am able to put on mascara without looking in the mirror it really makes me feel like a woman.
Today Jillian’s friend text her to say he saw me driving to work and putting on my makeup.  Pretty embarrassing; I try not to let people witness my bad driving habits.  It is probably a good thing that my mode of transportation will soon be limited to walking, bikes, and subways.
I think it is great to be able to wear and experiment with makeup.  It can create a mood, a look, a style.  I love getting all crazy and artistic with it, I love doing other people’s makeup, I love transforming my day face into a night-on-the-town face, but before 7am makeup is not a priority.  I would go to work without makeup but I get tired of people asking me if I’m feeling okay all day.  J
It is fun getting older and recognizing that you are starting to feel more comfortable in your skin.  I can’t remember where I read it but there was a woman talking about how much more she enjoyed her thirties than her twenties because in her twenties she was so unsure of herself and as she got older she just stopped giving a shit. I know I have a little while before my thirties but I definitely feel more confident, wiser, and less concerned about what other people think.  (**Tangent, not giving a shit always reminds me of this clip from Weeds, amazing:**) I feel good when lacking cosmetic additives; sometimes I think I look better without it.  I used to have a friend who would never let her boyfriend see her without makeup.  I cannot understand how she did this, certainly with an amount of motivation that I am missing.  It seemed like an awful lot of work.  It also seemed really sad.  All men that I know prefer a girl who wears minimal makeup over a girl who cakes it on with raccoon eyes.  Too much makeup can make you look incredibly old and trashy.
This is my daily routine which I have cut down to 4 simple steps:
1.      Face
Neutrogena SkinClearing oil-free makeup with salicylic acid
OR

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation with SPF 22
I love this Neutrogena foundation and have been using it for years.  I have tried switching before and suffered breakouts; this foundation really helps keep my skin clear and it covers with just a little but of product.  The CoverGirl foundation is in compact form and super easy for on-the-go touch ups and it has sunscreen in it.

2.      Cheeks
CoverGirl Classis Color blush in Soft Mink 590

If you don't use blush you should.  It is such an underrated cosmetic, it will be your best friend, espceially if you wear a base like foundation or powder; without blush you risk looking like you are about to pass out.  I am so worried the will stop making this blush.  I have two friends who now use this and swear by the color after using mine.  This color works on almost everyone and it has a soft shimmer to give you a healthy glow.  Not glittery or shiny, blends well and buildable. Love, love, love.

3.      Eyes
Maybelline Full n’ Soft Black
I started using this mascara in high school because I saw Julie using it on a mission trip and she has the most gorgeous eyes.  Unfortunately, it didn’t magically bless me with long lashes like hers but it did help create that illusion.  This mascara doesn’t get crunchy or flaky, you can apply several coats for a dramatic effect without it getting goopy.  I love this mascara.

4.      Lips
Vaseline

Vaseline is the best.  It is super moisturizing, not sticky, and cheap.  Definitely gotta bling mine out like this one.
