Chick Beer

I saw this on The Early Show this morning (one of the many perks of my job: a TV in the waiting room).  It is called Chick Beer and I think it is fabulous.  Beer marketing is obviously targeted towards men and these ladies decided to do something about that by creating Chick Beer.
“Chick is a craft-brewed light beer that doesn’t taste like a light beer.  It has just 97 calories and 3.5 carbs.  The taste is soft, smooth and full-bodied.  It’s the taste that most women prefer.  You’re going to love it.” - Chick Beer
Some women have an issue with this and think it would be degrading to drink something called Chick Beer out of a bright pink bottle with a LBD on it.  I am not sure that I am offended by that but I am completely offended by the horrendous font they chose for the label.  So tacky.  I do see the point of the naysayers, and I am not sure I would drink this beer either.  I kind of like my skinny Michelob Light which I think are totally marketed towards women and our dainty hands.  In the FAQ section they address the question about Chick Beer being sexist against men, to this they say "What we think is sexist is that the beer industry has totally ignored the female beer drinking market, which drinks 25% of all the beer consumed in the United States – over 700 million cases every year!"
Either way I think it is an interesting observation and reaction to an obviously sexist marketing strategy.
One thing I do love about Chick Beer is that 5% of the profits go to local charities that empower women.   Currently the beer is only sold in Maryland but I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing it in stores soon.
