Dancing and Driving

The weather has been so nice in the mornings so I have been driving to work with my windows open.  My new short hair works perfect for this because the wind totally styles it; dries it and gives it some shape and volume.  I love anything that allows me laziness and more sleeping in.  I drive to work at 7am which is a really shitty time for radio. I absolutely hate morning talk shows.  I hate everything they have to say.  I hate the radio DJ calling and catching the cheating boyfriend in a lie.  I hate the celebrity gossip (what am I going to do at work all day if you tell it to me on the way?).  I hate their voices.  The only stations that play music in the morning are the hip hop stations because they have the morning mixes.  Luckily, this is my preference for morning tunes; they wake me up and get me pumped for the day.
When I am driving by myself I have a hard time controlling my urge to dance and sing.  So imagine me sitting in barely moving traffic with a bunch of sleepy-eyed morning commuters, jamming to some Jay-Z with my windows down.  And I mean jamming; rapping with rap hand movements and arm waving and attitude. I get a lot of looks that I try to ignore.  Mostly I just hope it isn’t somebody I work with and that they got a good laugh on the way to work.  Maybe I spread a little joy and made them relax a bit.  Maybe I will end up on YouTube someday and the world will make fun of me in a public forum.  Maybe then I can find a way to sue the person who took the video and I can retire on a private island with a bunch of puppies.
I know you all sing in your cars, right?  You must.  So why don’t we see more people singing in their cars when we drive? I guess it’s possible that they are singing at the top of their lungs but we are too busy texting to notice.
In high school, because I was such a rebellious teenager, we would drive around car dancing and car flirting on Friday nights.  We literally would just drive around and dance in the car and look for boys to flirt with at stoplights then drive away giggling.  Holy shit.  I was such a nerd.  Thank God.
Singing and dancing in the car is still one of my favorite things to do.  When I am by myself I am like a rock star; top of my lungs with all I’ve got.  There is only one person in this world who has ever heard me give it my all when I sing in the car and that is Gregory. Lucky him!  I realize a lot of you may feel that you have had this privilege but no…you ain’t seen nothing yet.  Some of my favorite memories involved car dancing, singing, and fucking around: performing “My Humps” on repeat with Jason, Casey and I squeezed in my little truck, the “mating call” with Jamie, the mixed CDs with Jana on the way to school, the Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow duets with Jessica.  Good, good times.
And now, please take a moment to enjoy some great car singing/dancing moments…
