Stuck in the Middle

Working at a Children’s Hospital has taught me so much.  But mostly it’s taught me that people give their kids really fucked up names.

I understand parents are trying to be cute or creative, but is Princess going to be cute when she is a 35 year old trying to get that corner office?  And I’m sorry, but Mexicans really need to start choosing one last name and stick with it.  Also, Nevaeh (Heaven backwards) is so over done, it’s not unique or clever anymore, and it sounds like it should be spelled Neveah.   Phew.  I am done.  Almost.  I’ve got one more bone to pick.  Why give your child a first name and ask people to call them by the middle name?  I don’t get this.
I actually don’t really understand middle names at all when I think about it, which I am doing right now.  I could Google it but this isn’t a history lesson.  Feel free to do that on your own time.  I don’t care why we have middle names because I like them.  A middle name is a great way to pay homage to a family name or a parent’s name perhaps, but I think it is time we move past the Annes and the Maries and the Lynns and the Lees.   The middle name is a great place for some creativity; safe for something a little off-the-wall without getting the kid teased in school.
Here are my suggestions; you can have them, I do not plan on reproducing any time soon:
Rae
Thunder
Ever
Skye
Sage
Story
Rain
Danger
Sunshine
Jayne
Olive
Van
Batman

  2. I think that actually sounds awesome. And some people might think I am kidding about Batman, but I'm not. How rad would it be if that was your middle name? My nephew's middle name is King (same as his dad) and I love it!
