One of the big trends you will start to see is knee-high/thigh-high socks and tights.
I ordered three pairs on eBay a few months ago, a lot cheaper than American Apparel. I got an above-the-knee pair in gray, just-below-the-knees in cream with charming little holes in it (not sure what to call that but it's similar to the ones at the top left of the picture), and a black fishnet thigh-high pair with a thick band at the top. Something for everything and in all my favorite colors.

Wear these with a floral summer dress or a flirty skirt with a simple top and cardigan. As for the shoes, this is where the fun begins. If you prefer flats then try a saddle shoe or a combat/lace-up boot or cowboy boot. For heels the options are endless. Platform heels, wedges, Mary Jane’s, strappy, buckly, gladiatory, spiky, ribbony, closed-toe, and yes...even open-toed heels are acceptable with these socks. I had an internal struggle with this because it seems to spit directly in the face of the "NO Socks with Sandals" rule, but I like it, I think it's cute, and I am proud to say I have rocked it.
